Since time immemorial, herbs have been used to influence the mind, spirit, and emotions. Indeed, various herbs can significantly affect the nervous system in particular ways, including even by modulating hormones and neurotransmitters. Used appropriately, these herbs, called “nervines,” can often provide a safe alternative to the pharmaceutical antidepressants and anti-anxiety meds so frequently prescribed. Nervines often also influence the muscles, helping to relax and soothe them. You will learn the most appropriate herbs for the various conditions and situations that can impact the mind, spirit, and neuromuscular system. This class expands on the focuses on Western Herbalism, specifically herbs used in Native-American medicine, British herbalism, Physio-medicalism, and Eclecticism. You could take individual classes or register for the Herbalsim Certificate.
