CourseGraphic How did herbal therapy develop? What are the major herbal systems of the world, and how do they compare and differ? How do herbalists from these various systems choose particular herbs for particular situations? You will learn about the energetic aspects of herbs (for example, herbs which are warming, cooling, drying, & moistening) and how they can impact upon different types of people and conditions. Common assessment techniques of herbalists (including tongue assessment, facial assessment, iridology, and kinesiology) will also be briefly covered.

This course can be taken individually or as a part of the entire Herbal Therapy Certificate.

Herbal Therapy Certificate: Herbal therapy is the oldest and most widespread form of healing on planet earth! It is currently experiencing a revival in North America (since the mid-1980s), after a lull which transpired from the early 1900s with the advent of orthodox medicine and its array of drugs. Generally regarded as safer and just as effective (if not more effective) as orthodox medicine, herbalism is a science and art that can be successfully learned and utilized by the lay person. Through the use of tinctures, glycerites, teas, capsules, poultices, compresses, and salves, students enrolled in this course will learn to apply herbal therapy to support the constitution with reference to an array of conditions from A to Z, in consideration of guidelines as to indications, dosage, and contraindications.
