Experience a new language and culture with ASL. In this language series, you will gain an appreciation and understanding of Deaf Culture and Community and the critical skills necessary to communicate in ASL from basic to advanced levels using effective in-class learning strategies. You will learn basic vocabulary, grammar and expressive practice for everyday communication, beginning with personal information and moving to impersonal, polite to informal, and concrete to abstract. Instructor emphasizes a non-spoken classroom to help you achieve a mastery and confidence in your skill.

ASL 1:
In this course you'll learn basic skills for conversing in ASL and gain an appreciation for Deaf culture. You will learn to introduce yourself; sign cardinal numbers, fingerspell your name; identify others (by gender, appearance, body position and/or action); ask questions or make statements about others; follow classroom instructions; narrate about your language background; and use different strategies to ask for a sign.
