Restorative Functions: Clinical Training

This course entails patient care under personal supervision of a dentist that requires successful completion of course one. Participants must find a dentist to provide personal supervision. For this course, participants must provide care to 20 different patients in primary and permanent dentition in a dental practice. Once these requirements are met, a course instructor observes and verifies clinical satisfactory performance in two of the four restorative procedures. One of these restorations must be a Class II and achieve satisfactory interproximal contact.  Participants must complete the clinical credentialing examination by July 31, 2022.
Upon completion of this course the student will be able to:
Demonstrate clinical competency in the placement, contouring, and occlusal adjusting of the following restorative materials in both the permanent and primary dentition:
  • Amalgam restorations (Class I, II and V)
  • Glass ionomer restorations (Class I, II and V)
  • Composite resin restorations (Class I, II and V supragingival restorations where the margins of the restoration are entirely within enamel)
  • Stainless steel crown adaptation and cementation
*Successful completion of Restorative Functions Course 1 and Clinical Course 2 meets the MN Board of Dentistry’s restorative functions credential.
