In this course, learners begin their journey of confidence and fluency in ASL in a safe and non-judgmental environment. You will learn basic skills for conversing in ASL and gain an appreciation for Deaf/deaf culture through language related skills and readings. Topics of focus will be: "Introduction of Self & Others"; "Exchanging Personal Information", and "Talking About Where You Live". Emphasis will also be on the ASL alphabet through the ability to fingerspell and recognize fingerspelling as well as following classroom instructions via signing; narrate about your language background; and practice using different strategies to ask for a sign and/or to repeat.  Additional BASIC vocabulary topics of focus will be: basic cardinal (also known as counting) numbers;“Wh-signs”, basic ethnicity/nation signs, personal and possessive pronouns, time, colors, and gender specific signs using noun-verb agreement.
