In this course students will start developing listening, speaking, reading and writing skills and start gaining an understanding of Italian culture. Upon completion of this course students should be able to:
  • Provide basic information about themselves and their activities;
  • Participate in simple conversations on everyday topics (weather, meeting new people, place of work, place of origin, etc.)
  • Use and understand essential vocabulary related to everyday life (colors, numbers, days of the week, objects of daily life, etc.)
  • Fill in forms requesting general information (name, occupation, hobbies, etc.) and write postcards and paragraphs providing simple information.
Grammar and syntax will include: the alphabet, subject pronouns, articles, nouns and adjectives; verbs TO BE and TO HAVE in the present tense, for positive, negative and interrogative sentences; irregular verbs TO DO, TO STAY, TO GIVE, TO GO, and expression I WOULD LIKE/WE WOULD LIKE for polite requests. Lexicon includes objects, actions and places of daily life, numbers, food and professions.

Students will be provided with access to a Sophia.org online classroom where they can review each week’s lesson and post questions or suggestions.
